| The views from the lounge can be enjoyed while sinking into either of the two large, comfy sofas. If the weather turns really bad, fire up the wood-burning stove, pour yourself a dram and settle down to enjoy a good book, a film on the wall-mounted LCD television or the ever-changing sky and sea-scapes. | |
| The big kitchen window looks out on to a flat, grassy play area at the back of the house. Kitchen units are topped with beautiful elm surfaces made by the Skye-based furniture-maker Stuart Shone. The oak flooring in the kitchen, lounge and downstairs bedroom was provided by Russwood of Newtonmore. | |
| The easy availability of fabulous local beef, game and shellfish make Islay a great place for food lovers. The induction hob is as responsive as gas and works particularly well with the cast-iron pans provided. There is nothing that cannot be grilled, broiled or roasted in the microwave and traditional ovens to the right of the hob. | |
| You can squeeze up to eight people around the dining table. The table and chairs are made from Molave, a tropical hardwood. They were made with wood recycled from the Philippine railways. | |
| The bookcase in the lounge is made from Indonesian teak recycled from old government offices. We bought it in Hong Kong. On it you will find a selection of cookery books, novels, local guides and tourist information as well as some board games, including Monopoly and Scrabble, and some jigsaw puzzles. | ![]() |
